Dr. Richard grew up in Severna Park, MD, the oldest of three children. She has always loved animals, and shared her childhood with a dog, a cat, and a horse. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Loyola College in Maryland (now Loyola University) and went on to receive her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. She moved to Rhode Island after graduation to practice equine medicine, met her husband, and remained there for 7 years working with both small and large animals.
In 2010, Dr. Richard and her husband decided to move south, and she joined Palmer Animal Hospital in the summer of 2010 as a full-time associate. Currently, the couple live in Lovettsville, VA, with their three children, Joseph, Sarah, and Nathaniel. The family has recently expanded to include two guinea pigs, Koda and Norman, Rocky the golden retriever, and her new horse, Tony. In her “spare” time, she enjoys reading mysteries, cross-stitching, leading Cub Scouts, and spending as much time riding as possible.
